I met this cabbie here at Hyderabad yesterday.
Returning to large city from a small town of Kakinada where public appeared 'given up to the fate and let's get going', few minutes chat with this man was painfully insightful of the real impact, I had so far tried to ignore under cacophony of zee, now, and such drummers.
He had saved four lakh cash for his daughter's marriage, out of which 2 lakh came from selling his land in his village. He is 50 and doesn't own a bank account. Yesterday, he broke the marriage for want of money as the family of the groom refused to take old currency notes. He shared that he felt scared,of his daugher doing something untoward.
I don't think it would be wise or possible to undo the decision but it has surely left deep scars. The only thing which looks good now is the emerging of collateral advantage of encouragement to reduce the cash transactions. That, perhaps, was not foreseen by even those who now own it as major take away from otherwise a wrong.
