Science and God

As we try to explore intricacies of universe through scientific and technological advances, God is becoming more and more proven as we get more and more confused as science makes things more and more clear.

It's more the enormity of the discoveries of science, particularly the unfathomable minuteness and the infinite vastness of the universe, which conclusively bolsters faith in God today, than the trust we could ever had on the mythological past as told through scriptures.

Perhaps the magical narrations of the religious texts full of miracles of mythical characters, might have been needed to install the idea of God in minds of public during the yonder years, or may be relevant even today for the vast majority for instilling awe for the omnipotent.

Punctuality on office closing impacts carpooling success

Rising fuel expenditure, strenuously tiring commuting, awareness on environmental issue, are making policy makers and social advocates recommend car pooling, calling it the best society driven initiative for addressing these issues.

Why do we commute? To go to our work place every weekday barring business people who may be commuting every day. But largely it’s office goers who use personal transport to commute in lakhs every day in cities of Delhi, Mumbai, and other metros.

Most don’t use car pool for simple reason that in India while we expect and enforce punctuality of arrival in office, no one talks about punctuality of departure.

To quote an example, Govt departments and PSUs in Delhi which cause lakhs of employees on road commuting everyday, it is strange that very few resort to car pooling even though it is easiest to organise such community benefiting schemes among them.

To understand the reason we should look at the office time pattern. Govt has been very strictly calling for punctuality in offices and is taking pride in succeeding on this endeavour to a large extent. But the requirement of punctuality is addressed only for reaching office before specific time in morning say 0930 am beyond which employees are punished with compulsory leave.

However conveniently the Govt and bosses in PSUs refuse to own obligation of ensuring that employees are not held up in office beyond evening closing hours say beyond 0530pm.

Most Indian companies, PSU and govt offices have obnoxious practice of encouraging late sittings in offices. Senior managers take pride in sitting late and holding meetings late in to nights. They ensure that their subordinates too leave late.

The call of punctuality, obviously, doesn’t apply to the closing timing of offices.

Coming back to carpool, commuter looks for mobility both ways. While time for leaving home for office may be fixed in the morning, it’s almost impossible to leave office at one particular time in evening because of aforementioned reasons. So carpool which require match of four, fails to take off in evening and retrospectively fails morning car pool as well.

If Govt and company managements are honest on punctuality in India they would ensure that while employees are expected to reach office in time, management too ensures with integrity that office closes at particular time. Emergency and contingencies can be separately addressed. Carpool too may succeed in Delhi.
