Chinese would only laugh at our idiocy. Proportion of their trade in their favour with India vis a vis global business is actually an iota. We are going to hurt ourselves only. And many of the local manufacturers who are going hong ho on this boycott are those who had been selling low quality products to us and are finding this opportunity most apt to manipulate our choices towards that inferiority in name of patriotism, that too of the variety we middle class fall for.
Besides all these facts, mind you, the particular politico- business community which is mostly involved with Chinese trade is the one which won’t let this boycott happen even if India ends up losing its pride and sovereignty. They don’t care. 70% of bulk drugs are imported from China I heard the other day, so are the backend infrastructural project like telecom and bridges. 88% of components used in mobile handset industry are imported, 60% of medical devices in India are imported. Your iPhone, the components in your Samsung phone, the services which connects you to global hubs for enabling your web meetings, the buttons on your shirt, your tv, the modems you are using to connect to internet and writing social media posts, all have China somewhere.
And who would suffer? You and me , the middle class. No Chinese need to break an Indian TV in street to protest as there is none let that be absorbed. Let’s rather try that this whole narrative is told by a Chinese for India one day. That would be patriotism. Work for that now.
