It’s binary when you invoke divine intervention.
While expecting miraculous receiving through prayers, chanting mantras, visiting temples, churches or mosques, either you get what you want or you don’t get it. Probability is half either way.
There will always be someone who will get what they desired. Stories of those who succeed by praying or visiting a popular shrine get well documented and widely talked about lifting importance of the prayer, ritual or the shrine.
Those who fail to get, just move on hoping for some other chance or some other temple or pilgrimage or penance, or would just blame their poor fate.
This is how formal religious dogmas and practices work. Stories of those few who get what they want are popularly in circulation because these are pleasing facts everyone loves to pay attention to and strengthens their faith and influence as many people further as it can. While those who fail in this binary just keep it to themselves rarely revealing that they tried pleasing Gods for their wants. So we know mainly of those who have received.
