Praying, rituals, invoking Gods : alternate view

It’s binary when you invoke divine intervention.

While expecting miraculous receiving through prayers, chanting mantras, visiting temples, churches or mosques,  either you get what you want or you don’t get it. Probability is half either way.

There will always be someone who will get what they desired. Stories of those who succeed by praying or visiting a popular shrine get well documented and widely talked about lifting importance of the prayer, ritual or the shrine.

Those who fail to get, just move on hoping for some other chance or some other temple or pilgrimage or penance, or would just blame their poor fate.

This is how formal religious dogmas and practices work. Stories of those few who get what they want are popularly in circulation because these are pleasing facts everyone loves to pay attention to and strengthens their faith and influence as many people further as it can. While those who fail in this binary just keep it to themselves rarely revealing that they tried pleasing Gods for their wants. So we know mainly of those who have received.

Xmas and Santa Claus

Ever since my first child was born some 31 years back, Santa Claus has been visiting our home without a single miss. He brings gifts for all every Xmas eve. He doesn’t know or care about my faith. He visits like a spirit or angel bringing unconditional love. He is always  there celebrating birth of Christ with the world. Santa is just supremely epitomised embodiment of happiness anyone willing can embrace.

When we were growing up in Shimla there used to be snow fall almost always on eve of Xmas and we used to look up to falling flakes giving us illusion of rollercoaster ride towards heavens. For those few wintry days when world celebrated arrival of Christ we used to rest all other personifications of God and associated tales and saying and used to just enjoy this moment in this form. Perhaps Gods from our parental faith too celebrated this day  with us.

I believe God in all His manifestation would never pitch His one IMAGE against Other. He won’t be God any more for that. If we are staging that rivalry we are possessed by satan.

To me the Santa is the happiest Godly someone among all what God would like his blessings be represented by for our times.

Rest all are merely best suited representation of what we imagine what God should be though He possibly would keep us guessing only of what He be. Let’s just celebrate.

Narsimha Rao

He was indeed best PM after Jawahar and  Indira.

Political class trying to usurp legacy of Narsimha Rao was the one which went viciously after him from 1993 onwards.

Do dig into real happenings and stop learning history from sources like whatsapp which manufacture it rather than record it as what happened. That period was not so ancient that one can't look into archive of newspapers or search authentic sources now to educate oneself.

He indeed was great PM because he worked taking all along and took best of the talent for advisers even adversaries. If one were present during those days, post schooling, (means had grown up to know what was going on, and is not still left naively low wit juvenile ), do recall to understand which political class was blatantly after  Narasimha Rao, dragging him to courts on dozen of false made up cases and pulling him for such humiliation  like that from Harshad Mehta’s flimsy allegations, or importing unknown gravely old  men from US to file idiotic cases against him, making him appear such a politically untouchable person in lates nineties that even Congress was pushed to back-foot and  attempted to avoid him lest that causes it any further political damage to already out of office weak party. With political posturing and amplification  Rao was made pariah to that extend that even Congress was left itself distancing from him.

Narrative from those who were in reality working relentlessly against Rao when he was in power to project him like a political untouchable, imported aged obscure businessmen from US with stupid allegations to drag him to courts and celebrated his near arrest. They openly supported a thug stock broker crook who claimed carrying 500 kg cash in hands to bribe a PM walking a km past toughest security. They asked for Rao’s ouster repeatedly and publicly.

Even after leaving  office he was made to visit courts for years. He was treated like a culprit during a decade he was out of power and that time govt was not of Congress.

Those vicious forces smartly changed the narrative on Narsimha Rao later and Congress fell for these tricks and acted stupid.

Those who are now claiming rescuing his image and his contributions and his legacy had brought his downfall and dishonoured his achievements. After two decades he is darling of same political class.  What a farce.

About religion: alternate view

Foundation of every religion is on 'after life' or 'after death'. Either no one knows what happens once the body stops functioning or no one wants to believe that this is ‘The End’ of the subject human in all of its entirety.

Knowing this impossibility, some influencers, availing the opportunity handy from this unknowable,  decided to create myths using their wizardry of storytelling laced with gifted eloquence, thus  making public  easily reposing faith in those hyperboles. The influencers became closely related to that god thus  earning residual collateral respects. God or gods too became characters of new geographic specific historical myths and  religions got born. New influencers continued to this day. ‬

‪Rest all, associated moral stories, tales of one supreme god or variety of gods, angels, gods’ or god’s representatives, spirits and higher souls,  knowing of future or tricks of modulating future, realisation of wishes, burden of sins or rewards of good deeds ie everything what makes up a religion; are hyperbolical fabled legends. These are either part of deliberately cooked up fictions or honestly created literary masterworks by some genius which the influencers of the later ages made into mythical propaganda for promoting their version of some belief about death and after life and to command how one should conduct day to day life based on those assumptions with fear of unknown God or Gods and death and after death. ‬

Every religion could fundamentally be simply deep rooted largely trusted gossip only.

This is not statement about existence of God or Gods but only a comment on religions as we encounter.

Arrogant Airlines

Be five minutes late and you are dropped. Board the flight and still find yourself being chucked out dues to overbooking. Lately, airlines have been going berserk on arrogance.

Passanger considerations are just no one’s business whether by airlines or by airports administrations as they continue to fleece them with unbounded fees, fares and penalties. Cancel ticket and get peanut in refund. Facilities at airports are being created not for passengers whose convenience should be  primary stake holding of such premises,  but for creating commercial opportunities to make more money.

Fares at some sectors would go up ten times for even one hour flights like to Dehradun, Dharmshala. And they are arrogantly allowed to do so without any public, govt, regulatory check or relief. What does that point to? Do they  have access to political support to do all this knowing that they would get away with it? They are indeed getting away with it.

Nations : how these had been and why we should respect present boundaries

Before present era of modern sobriety and moral codes of living with organised collaborative way, took roots, every chieftain (king) was capturing or driving away other weaker ones of other lands and bringing bigger regions under his control for power and revenue. It was considered legitimate in those times. Killing other humans for sake of the king was patriotic and religions were being invented every now and then to normalise actions of the rulers of the time. Some stayed to our times.

Not any more now. We can't redefine world with ancient philosophies of politics and moralities.

It is in recent times only that boundaries are becoming sacrosanct and defining of modern nations. We are different period of upwardly developing civilisation. Let's accept what we have today or at least how we know of most of the nations for past 100 or so years.

Wikipedia vs Community Notes on X

Wikipedia isn’t reliable but is more useful than Community notes at least presently.

CN lacks prompts for what to look for next to make information complete and trustworthy. It merely provides trust inclination limited to whether a particular post requires further independent fact checking or not.

On other hand Wikipedia even when universally considered not so reliable offers powerful and quicker first landing for search outcome when looking for any useful information independently. It breaks out structure from where one can further search cross references to reach reliable tools like academic and technical resources which may provide trusted information one looked for in very first place.

Wikipedia offers self research which CN lacks as it is mere addendum to someone’s post, not what you may have wanted to know yourself.

Indian Express: Rajiv Gandhi, Goenka, Shorey, Gurumurthy, episode of 1987-88

‪I vividly remember those days of Ramnath Goenka , Gurumurthy and Shorey leading frontal attack on Rajiv Gandhi using Amitabh/ Ajitabh, Ambanis and even then president Jail Singh through their columns in Indian Express. This assault from one media house was so incessant for almost two years on daily basis that Rajiv was almost politically drowned. Past 35 years of socio- political upheaval we see could easily find its genesis in that so called everyday journalistic revelations from those gentlemen during that period. They rattled the polity.

Few years later these same persons openly admitted of having particular party affiliations, when they found it convenient to reveal and enjoyed the rewards too.

When Jail Singh episode was catapulted on the pages of IE, the newspaper copies were used to be distributed free at Churchgate crossing where lakhs of office workers used to cross over on way to Nariman Point and Cuff Parade, something underlining the intent behind the campaign. ‬

News reporters from India at Israel - Hamas war zone

The most important training a journalist must learn to possess is the neutrality particularly when reporting from a conflict zone where only NEWS should outflow not their running commentary colored with personal biases and instinctual national or ethical prejudices.

US lost Vietnam war not because it fell weaker against locals but because of strong US media which reported atrocities of US forces and uselessness of war. They were never called antinational. Some were even honoured. BBC's stand on not taking sides is legendary which it highlighted this time too. Let consumers of the news judge.

Besides lacking awareness on personal safety, most of these inexperienced lot have been sent untrained for even what they must report back. It seems they are in a third party war zone of Hamas-Israel conflict not looking for news but to explore convenient excuses for consolidating the biases they represent back home.

Our global stature

We could not have afforded to hand over Sri Lanka to China or pushed it under US hegemony or turn it into another Diego Garcia at our very doorstep. Sending IPKF to Lanka or the Maldiv operations were necessary to establish semblance of our control over Indian Ocean in our neighbourhood. Those were not just right steps but powerful demonstration of rising Indian importance in the region never seen even after those day.

If Sri Lankan operation of India is to be considered as failed than so should be Vietnam, Afganistan or Iraq for US or Afganistan for USSR. However these actions made US stand on higher footing than others. The success of such operations are not just measured by final outcome but by impact of prowess a nation displays to protect its interests or to challenge competing powers like in Lanka’s case India was sending message to China and US. Indian operations in Maldiv or Sri Lanka raised our global stature.

Today, far from daring to conduct strategic operations beyond our borders, we have been accused internally of not doing enough to protect our northern and eastern borders. On other hand we also get accused of  succumbing to interests of  politically inclined few businessmen having trade relations with rival neighbours.

We seem to be strongly present only on WhatsApp and in domestic politically managed TV debates. It is but a metaversical existence of false grandeur being sold to gullible people primarily to promote oligarchic dominance of power and communal hold on the politics.

Radio Jhootistan

Radio Jhootistan the satirical skit on All India Radio mocking Pakistani propaganda during '71 was hit among us children. Against  tense blackouts in evenings and scary briefings in schools by army jawans , Radio Jhootistaan was perfect get away. We siblings and friends used to enjoy it and gossip about the Pakistani defeats and had also jingles made for Bhoto which we used to sing loudly. I vividly recall my father pasting carbon papers brought from office on window panes to block any light going out in night during blackouts. There were several trenches made near our locality for safety. When Pakistani attack happened on 3rd December children out of curiosity ran to higher places to see the night sparks in air.

Violence by Hamas

This goriness raises the deja vu of continued violence such perpetrators have been inflicting mercilessly on innocent lives particularly against women and children world over. This is not the first of similar heinous crime against some woman, we have seen even people admitting having committed similar acts on camera earlier elsewhere. And the religion has nothing to do with this hatred as we can find them hiding behind garb of different faiths. In fact they first abandon their own faith than dye their hearts with vile immorality before committing such crimes.

Israel and Hamas

The actions of both Israel and Hamas against each other should be considered a threat to global peace and the pace of its development.

While one derives legitimacy from being a formally recognized state, the other is still an illegitimate militia whose brazen violence knows no bounds. However, both also fully recognize each other's formal enemy status.

The human atrocities they both commit on innocents of their region and the  uncalled for hardship  their actions cause to other countries and the people around the world should be considered crimes against humanity, which the world collectively needs to deal with sternly. It is their wounds that other people have to bear.

What we are seeing in Gaza, Israel, West bank is result of continued mutual political intransigence, communal hatred and above all, stubborn indifference towards global peace. These  should be good enough reasons for the rest of the world to rise up and pay serious attention to work collectively towards an implementable and enforceable parmanent solution to this conflict. The genesis of this problem, though irrevocably settled now,  also lies in some collective decision enforced decades back from outside only, so might it work for resolving the present crises  too permanently. People are tired.

Canada -India

‪Even after days Justin Trudeau hasn’t revealed any evidence supporting his allegations against India. That shows his statement indeed was made without content and perhaps could have been reaction to supposed ill treatment he received during his recent visit to Delhi. As responsible leader he should not have let himself provoked by any superficial cold shouldering at Delhi, and dealt with it diplomatically through professional channels and professionally himself. At the same time India must relook at role of non-state people and even irresponsible media who were making public fun of a senior visiting dignitary during G20. When he was here social media particularly from handles supporting governing party were berserk on cracking jokes on him which escalated to frenzy when his return was held up due to technical reasons and he had to overstay. This is condemnable and against our traditions of respecting a guests and diplomats particularly. However obviously he is not expected to lower himself under this provocation and should have responded with maturity rather than forwarding publicly such baseless accusations against India. It’s time for deescalation now for both sides and to sit on table. We all understand who would be more at loss here as the world watches.

Temples were symbols of King's power

Temple building boom during medieval times particularly in south,  predominantly and popularly symbolised power and authority of the Kings. When Chalukyas raided Pallavas or Rashtrakutas sacked Chalukya cities or Cholas went all the way Orissa and Bengal they took down temples as show of their power and to humiliate the losers. World during those times was like that all over. Kings were using religion almost as it is being used by rulers of today. Mughals, Turks or Abbasids or our own locals Kings were doing nothing against their moral standards. They all were ruthless politicians at heart. Their standards of morality were not as developed as we have today. Sacking places of worship, taking away women of defeated armies and destroying their intellectual properties, and viharas, temples and palaces was casually done as legitimate actions by every ruler and that had nothing to do with their religious faiths though they might have used that to rationalise their actions as some muslim rulers did. They were all the same. Hun, Turk, Mughal, Kushan, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas,  Cholas all did it. They were all politicians like of our times masquerading  as religious faithfuls with purpose to subjugate public.

Vaccine War

Against Corona was a global war, no one nation fought alone. That’s why we all, in every nation of the world, defeated it without as much of damage as it was perhaps being feared for initially. All the vaccines were collective efforts of scientists and pharma companies at diverse places all round the world. And were result of already undertaken efforts of decades even before corona impacted us.

Years of legacy researches resulted in quick roll out of covid vaccine. In India primarily it was Oxford Astra Zenca vaccine ( not an Indian one) which was foundry manufactured as Covishield by smart local pharma company appreciatively. Our vaccine dispensation for rural and urban infrastructure which had always been known as gold standard since decades came handy for fight against corona as platform for vaccines dispensation.

It’s also important to note that over 85 percent people in India were vaccinated with this originally Oxford researched AstraZeneca vaccine called Covishield. Other locally acclaimed vaccine Covaxin had only 12-15 percent usage in India. This vaccine also did not get universal approval as many countries refused to accept its claims on tests. It would also be almost blasphemous rather just only cheap allegations to speak ill about mRNA vaccines, which most of the western world used successfully to contain spread of covid. Being expansive to deliver at remote places it was not popular in developing nations who skipped it. However mRNA research has been one of the most innovative in recent medical development and not just for Corona it has reported potential to save humanity from many such virus afflictions, disease and malignancies in future.

All nations came together against corona. It was WHO mandated Covax programme which ensured that most people world over get vaccines. They imposed compulsions on vaccine patent holders and manufacturers to ensured equitable distribution to all and percentages were fixed. No nation which itself manufactured vaccines under license from other countries can take undue credit for distributing vaccine to other poor nations.

It was war we all fought despite many politicians taking credit. In fact many businesses under protection of politicians took advantage of usurping health infrastructure like hoarding medicines, supplying low quality oxygen machines and some politicians even used public rallies to spread the crises. It is despite them we humans succeeded. Don’t give any credit to them. They would have liked worsening of this.

Indian local products: a myth

Nothing is Indian, Chinese or American these days. We are global village. No country barring  one or two can go self reliant and manufacture even a missile without using significant hardware procured from outside (though it feels pleasurable when a politician tingles your patriotic soft nerve saying we are self reliant).

Go maufecture a satellite without Korean or US made miniature components or write its code in sanskrit inspired shlokas, you can’t.  Humara nuclear reactor, humara missile , humari vaccine, humari local cars all are to please your that nerve. Yes quality of manufacturing differs. In India it’s difficult to get SUSTAINED quality from most brands. Most of Indian cars brands have USP of best roadside assistance and wide street side repair  workshops, precisely because these are cars we find mostly stranded on road. Yes I am talking about Tata cars, Mahindra and Maruti. This all is because we are not bothered  about quality of service at human level.

A bolt or bearing   in my car can be of best quality but its fitment will be done casually by a stressed bidi smoking man at shop floor who has been recently harassed by his boss.  All this we accept because of the same ‘who cares?’ attitude. This goes for most of the thing we manufecture. Finally  a middle class person saving earnings to buy a phone  or car must have option to same quality of product as any consumer any where globally. Middle class Indians have been long blackmailed to go for substandard products in name of patriotism. While same people who preach this, buy expansive imported cars, phones, suits, watches, teleprompters and even planes.

Lion and Elephant

Lion is ferocious beast which neither possesses discernment of just or unjust actions nor has humility to submit to rules of any social order. It never made itself useful to human. Its glory remained only in fables, myths and fantasies. For all that, it always remained confined to jungles or recently to zoos and circuses. There should be no pride in being a lion.

The powerful Elephant on other hand has intelligence to socialise and form colonies and be extremely useful to human. Elephants once domesticated and taught to follow rules had been most utilitarian animal for the human and his worldly conquests since ancient times. They formed main armament during their wars Indian Kings fought with Huns, Greeks, Kushan, Saka, Turks, Persians and other invaders and could scare them and their cavalry. Elephants helped build massive temples and colossal forts and palaces we revere and feel awed. There was never a lion around to arm the forces of either side.

Yes, this metaphor for lion applied to any human to represent his supposed bravery would best be construed reference to someones’ beastly trait only.

India and Indian represent our global importance

Even if they prove that some old books have some reference to Bharat for part or whole of  the peninsula, that can’t challenge that ‘India’, ‘Indian’, or its variant have been popular word referring to this land in most global and Indian languages for past two and half millennia. Greeks, Achaemenids, Kushan, Saka all knew it as India for 3000 years. Poor British came just 300 years back.

Forget India, globally ‘Indian’ or its variant have been most popular and refer to soul of something inherently belonging or resembling to this land. Even places or people who resembled circumstantially to this land have Indian or Indo as primary prefix for their identity. So vital India had been to the world. Indo China, native Indians of America, Indian ocean, Indonesia, West Indies. India is not just name of a nation it also represents our stature and importance we should be proud of.

Fruits of perpetual ethnic conflicts and false pride

Not just respecting and but assimilating good from other faiths is what makes ours distinctively superior to every other. Amusingly majority of the pseudo activists from right, sleeper cells and kartpushers of dark brigade infesting every WhatsApp group, reels, and X these days, appear to know more about Islam and muslims than any Mufti, Maulvi or Maulana in Cairo, Deoband, Barreilly or Lucknow would ever know ! And surprisingly charlatans know little about flexibility, vastness, universality of their own all encompassing faith as also its stark imperfections which they ignorantly celebrate over rather prioritising to reform.

Over 55 percent of world population can’t just be considered ill informed because some outsider considers himself to know more about their faith and trash their opinions comparing it to what you think should be rightfully right. Even basic statistical principal should not permit you to categorise such a large majority as illusionists and ill informed about how they perceive and follow god with rituals over which actually there are no rules of science which can apply (neither of course to your faith and nor to theirs as the fact is in reality).

Science and liberal thinking only would make the world survive and progress. Those who indulge in petty fights would remain unfit and the fittest only would survive. That’s fundamental of all the principles. Unless of course some cult followers, like we have few here and else where among other faiths too, want to sacrifice their existence committing self-extinction at the altars of their dogmas to permanently get lost in prehistoric illusions.

Science and technology has really done wonders for comfort of modern world like our phone which make us share every crap on social media (and indulge in arguments and quarrel) and the aeroplanes rabidly indoctrinated NRIs could zip in and out away from their abandoned mothers and motherland so easily. Important is that all these scientific achievements are almost 100 percent innovations out of liberal minds from progressive, open democratic and inclusive societies not from people with bottled minds residing in closed places of self assumed utopias shining in some supposed past glory.

A nation in perpetual ethnic conflicts and false pride borne out of knowledge cocktail of distortions from two hundred years of freehand offset printing, assorted pseudo-babas, TV and now whatsapp university, has hardly done anything fundamentally creative and technologically original. And mind you, it won’t ever, if it continues to make its gods indulge in fake violent street fights.

Religions could have selective value only

Every religion which claims true connection to God  is fake and based on ancient and ever evolving imaginary stories created, modified and redeveloped to entertain, control or brain wash masses into stark unquestioning subjugation of the Masters of Interpretations, Rituals and Ceremonies, who claim to know more and better and are prime movers of traditional religions as we know. These masters are to religion as much religion is to them.

For centuries every next transaction of these stories has been altering and adding new content to the original which keeps blurring in meaning or in its lesson to ultimately unrecognisable irrational and illogical form while masses still kept hypnotised to believe them as what happened. Though these never happened as told.

Understanding of existence or even absence of God  has nothing to do with these stories or rituals based on mythical imaginary tales.

However following religious  practices and even rituals, nevertheless based on imaginations and being no mean to reach associated God,  have though selectively, potential to show value in creating order in society and bringing integrity of moral conduct conducive to harmonious existence and growth of overall humanity and every other life on the planet. To this extent religions can meaningfully be worthy to make human life better and more eligible to attain nirvana by understanding existence of God or even realising God’s absence on a good laugh.

If one still finds it necessary to follow, every mythical, religious story and ritual which provides universal moral preaching and imparts respect for every life, idea and belief,  may not be valued on its genuineness for practical consideration but as mean to achieve better human progress, peace,  happiness and societal integrity.

Faith is but only your story, don't expect universal agreement here

You are handed over a bed time tale or you conjure up a fantasy propelled script or some unproven learning is poured on your head by some smarter idiot whose chief qualification is to speak better than you even if  that is devoid of  any worthy content or is full of political lies. And you name the wisdom so acquired as your faith.

It’s well so far, no one minds.

However you go all out to bind others holding them against judging, commenting negative or expressing even iota of disbelief about your story or knowledge which you consider as your belief and your faith.

That becomes a huge social problem at home, among friends or in society.

No one but you, is responsible for your state of emotional wellbeing or for any mental fall nor is anyone accountable for keeping your faith unbroken.

Your faith is your private personal attribute.  Don't let egoistic pride borne out of that knowledge induce fragility to the heart and mind and suck out rationality required to maintain social order and peace. Have heart at least if you are not given a good brain. Try.

Fossil fuel is needed

Fossil fuels have been our most potent energy partners and engine of growth for achieving present prosperity, the kind we gifted to ourselves during past 150 years.

For proponents of reusing resources, fossil fuel is also recycled bio-waste, dead for millions of years. One way to look at it could be to appreciate earth’s self sustaining quality of empowering human development using its own resources multiple times as it did by providing enormous amount of energy rich hydrocarbon resources from its deep belly, which has helped us achieve present day progress.

None of much talked about alternate fuels have proven to be as efficient as fossil fuels have been. Let’s not cap and kill it just because some section of elite nations have decided to do so on achieving their reasonable own goals while large part of the world still awaits to match their ascent. They too want their ride on this opportunity.

Instead let’s deploy larger resources to develop processes to mitigate or stop any degradation of planet while appreciating this unending process of nature offering us wonderful energy from within our planet.

We need to do more to control and regulate its side effects efficiently while we continue our pursuit for better energy resource to empower our common future.

Tracks of progress

Track has been laid by West on which we all are running and competing presently. That’s a given advantage they have which they attained during past five centuries of incessant smarter work culture and display of courage to take extreme risks to conquer diverse geographies and control over scientific narrative.

If we decide to lay our own fresh track of progress, as rightists keep assuring us, we may need to go far behind to align it efficiently enough to help achieve our singular goals but to also bear risk of losing forever.

Wiser would be to accept west’s gained advantage sportingly and run on same track more efficiently and competitively till we run past them and are eligible and capable to lay fresh track lengths on our own terms where they would run and endeavour to outsmart us. This is more harmonious way to resettle world order rather than live with conflict, self deprecation and victimhood.

Elders becoming flag bearers of political toxicity

New India !!

Youngsters, take care of metal health of your elders while they themselves keep being physically fit and healthy.

A 95 years old community elder was being popularly quoted in our social Whatsapp group for his inspiring health and dedication towards discipline in daily routines and diet. He indeed appears much younger to his age. It came out that he is also a cartoonist and is active on social media. Finding this interesting I looked at his twitter handle.

To my surprise I found him creating and posting toxic political content with strong undertones of hatred, misogyny and mindless racial and religious prejudice.

With due respect to this grand old formar senior who superannuated decades back and whose actions relating to managing health may be inspirational, is it not imperatively excepted that at this age a nonagenarian sheds prejudices, stops being socially toxic and politically vile?

However I am finding that more of such elders, senior retired persons, are falling prey to being prime flag bearers of virulent socio-political raids of modern day ideas of Caligulas and Mihirkulas. One peep into their whatsapp groups would reveal how much religeous, racial and political hatred is being spewed constantly in such groups which also spills over to facebook and twitter at times with some more active ones even if struggling beyond 90, taking leads.

Kaun raja hai bhai aaj kal … the ignorance of commoners

Before advent of formal democratisation and/or republicanism and emerging of more rational science guided human consciousness, world was ruled by various kings, princes, Jamindaars kinds, who used to take over charge as caretakers or keepers or just plain usurper of territorial authority.

There used to be no geographic entities as present day nations we commonly know of. It was all open ground inviting political change as and when new raider establishes new administration or some local bully rises to gang up over all citizens of that geography.

People used to be part of many states under different rulers during their single life time. Kaun raja hai bhai aaj kal … who is the king these days was usual query which used to remain unanswered for majority of people who were busy in day to day efforts to meet ends. Very few bothered and these were the elite who used to be beneficiaries of power sharing emanating from authority of local king who used to get authority from some bigger king and so forth.

If religion or faith was important for keeping the ruler’s authority strong and going, it was misused or used or even created for that objective as it still continues to be done today.

India too before 100 years or so was nothing but geopolitical collage of variety of independent rulers each holding and protecting territory and looking forward for opportunities to expand further. Most of these rulers were part of family or common interest pyramid of authority which from time to time had different apexes like Maharaja Dheerrajah or Badshah or Monarchs because many of these rulers of rulers arrived from far off places to subjugate territories and its inhabitants.

Not that people from across Hindukush and Himalaya only adventured from far of places into north India as Hun, Kushan, Sakas, Greeks, Mughals did, even ambitious kings from south of Vindhyas tramped north or rajahs of central India went fighting wars in south and east. None of these rulers had been popular with locals who were made subjects forcibly by the raiders, be it Indian or malechhas raiders. This was true for foreign invaders as much for the sons of soil Indian raiders. These kings had no emotional attachment to any single superset country like we now refer to as India. They all had attachment only with their region of origin, themselves and the ruling family. That’s it. There was no collective war or resistance against common enemy like say British or Mughals or Kushans and Huns solely for the sake of any larger binding national cause, because for them there was neither a nation nor a common cause. They all were fighting for the control of personal and family owned territories and authorities of their own or on lein from some Badshah or Maharaja Dheerrajah or Monarch.

Today we are country of true commoners, bound through a constitution we wrote for ourselves. There is no king or ruler who could claim divine right to govern over us. The glories of past are mostly glories of kings written by their trumpet players and courtiers. That glory is no glory to be glorified today. Let past kings slide past in past and rest. There is nothing we can learn from them.

Civilisational progress keeps developing linearly upwards

I am waiting for the day when AI generated images and videos too, like the one in circulation these days claiming greatness of our ancient Rishis who could do surgery and were discoverers of many laws of science which westerners stole from India, would source genesis from some ancient myth and try to prove how advance those mythical characters were.

Civilisations have been progressing and developing linearly upward over 8000 years. People in olden times too were aware of many processes and procedure like days, months, mathematics, astronomy, medicine and surgery but learnt from sheer observations. Some resourceful ones recorded that too when they learnt to write and found something to write on like clay tablets, or rocks or even some leaf. However they never could anywhere explain the logic for the conclusion they arrived at. Gods of many kinds and their divine actions, charms and magics were their excuses to explain what they otherwise observed.

Mesopotamians, and Sumerians at least 7000 years before were  making canals, developing languages and were writing on astronomy and medicine on tablets which are available to verify today. SURGERY was common in Mesopotamia too some 6000 years back. It was common in several places in later civilisations too. Not that Indians might not have known these things. May be, but those experiences or even of say Mesopotamians,  no where can be compared to modern science to make false claims of suprematist greatness using fakery.

To associate Newtons findings to falling apple is kiddish. Newton's observation was not restricted to just recording somewhere on dry leaf what he observed. He went ahead and developed full theory and scientific reasoning around his observations and proved those laws for universality using complex mathematics and by submitting his finding to critical analysis and peer review and were later led to consistent practical purposes and inventions. All those finding of various hardworking men  during past 6 centuries  have led  us to have today tools like aeroplanes to fly to foreign lands to become NRI and enjoy AI which  creates such fake videos to covert and indoctrinate even educated, experienced  elders into mediocrity.

Real history is different

World always existed beyond Kandhar and Sindh and prosperously too. Most of the history of the world here and also away from boundaries of the subcontinent as we mean India today, is as what had happened, though of course doped, some what faked and exaggerated with narratives ordered, commissioned, inspired, by powerful rulers as well, still vastly established and corrected with modern tools of investigative archeology, literature and language.

Greeks, Huns, Hans, Parthians, Romans, Kushan, Scythians Sakas, Bactrians, Persians, Achaemenidians, Egyptians, Chinese, Sumerians, and Mesopotamians were real people and lived and prospered through several hundred or even couple of thousand years before and during the times we started listening live to Buddha and saw recording history of Nandas and Mauryas on edicts and coins, and establishment of formal large empires in what we call now India. These all so called malechha people had Kings, shatrapas, heroes and gods of their own and some even much popular too. Some of these deities and their stories even migrated along with people and cultures into Indian subcontinent when they invaded, visited for trade or simply came over and settled as people used to do those days everywhere. This all started happening many hundreds of years before Satvahnaas, Nagas, Guptas, Chalukyas, Palavaas, rose and raised our pride. Conclusively though these all people here and there in far lands were real people who lived.

Contrastingly our history of ancient times as is being popularised and propounded today mainly by WhatsApp university educated historians and sundry commercialised religious preachers filled with obstinance, is mythology heavy with unbelievable tales of mixed up characters, many raised to being gods, soaked in past memories and magical imaginations. This history is unrelated and different from real findings which are outcome of the researches by scientific and rationally passionate minds. It is promoted and oversold by colluding elites and indoctrinated cult practitioners using modern tools of printing and publishing, social media and instant messaging, the processes which still continue to blur reality with fanaticism of fantasy.

Obama's comments on India: Whataboutery would be considered admittance

Credibility of Obama among global statesmen is undoubtedly on much greater pedestal than even most of the leaders holding formal statuses as heads of states. It would be immature to confront his opinion with juvenile arguments chastising him for his personality and background and his mistaken faith and also on irrelevant and connected topic of wars US fought in middle east under his presidency. It’s highly unlikely that global audience would consider Obama’s opinion as biased and based on hearsay just because we disagreed with him and countered with our rebuttal so clumsily.

Comparing his views about supposed atrocities on minorities in India to US bombing some middle eastern countries during his tenure is also highly questionable. Those bombings or invasions, even if not concurred by all nations, were part of formally declared wars with identified enemy countries of his nation for which he had authorisation and approval of his people. It was not against any ethnicity but against some nation his country considered working against their interests. We may differ with him on that account. However this can’t be used to form biased opinions and to counter argue his perception about atrocities on minorities in India.

Cow vigilantism, bulldozing of dwellings without waiting for court sanctions, letting private rogue crowds to inflict damages to persons and properties or even places of worship, instigating violence against people of different faiths and calling of general boycott of section of society based on religion or caste, all these accusations even if mere rumours in view of ruling dispensation here, must have been the background of Obama’s opinion which he expressed. He could be wrong. However this can’t be brushed aside with rather casual and loose views that he doesn’t possess authority to speak on these issues because of the reason that he allegedly, in our opinion, ordered under his authority killing of one particular ethnicity while actually on war with some nations or by using slurs about his faith as had been done by a senior ruling party politician. That kind of supposed rebuttal as some officials tried giving as counterpoise to Obama’s statement would not stand scrutiny of global opinion makers considering Obama’s status. It might actually give false impression that we agree to his views but don’t care because US did something similar during presidency of Obama. That’s laughable.

Obama was not making off the cuff statements on his own. He was rather responding to a question he was asked in an interview. If we disagreed with his opinion or doubted his sources, there should have been efforts to approach him directly with convincing facts and figures and reasoning using trustworthy diplomatic resources publicly or discreetly. That might have allowed him chance to correct himself being responsible statesman. He was after all former president of US and had worked for bettering of Indo US ties particularly during tenure of present governing party in India and has cordial relations with PM. This would have showcased maturity of our leadership.

Using whataboutery to counter him that too by some of the highest and formal ranking officials and even making of personal comments over his faith by people holding position of power would be counterproductive as it brings disrespect to country’s diplomatic credibility globally. This is avoidable.

Subir Raha

Raha was compulsive smoker, loved single malt and he indeed used to break accepted norms for that and for pushing his agenda and his opinion. Some times he did conduct little harsh or acted bit too quickly publicly ruffling egos of colleagues and subordinates, albeit avoidable indeed when we recapitulate that conduct. However such strong headed persons are known to always keep some little aberration that makes their stories romantic and readworthy when we look back !!! We should focus on what defined such a person in overall perspective of achievements he delivered as Chairman of ONGC.

Read about Steve Jobs another maverick who too was hated by many of his colleagues and subordinates because of the display of similar aberrations in personal communication. However Raha was man with kind heart which many of those who worked with him can vouch for. He had multifaceted talent. Correcting grammar and spelling on note-sheets to making business decisions efficiently and quickly to being senior uniformed Territorial Army officer were hallmark of his personality we rarely see commonly.

Turning around an almost sick PSU into a most valuable organisation of the country in just first two years of his tenure as C&MD and providing it with an acceleration that makes ONGC hold position of supremacy even today, are corporate miracles. Lessons of leadership he left, torch light ONGCians’ path to excellence even to this day. A lot positive for ONGC happened in past two decades due to that very push it acquired those days under Raha. ‬

Subir Raha was credited for transforming India’s vital most oil and gas exploration company from near deathbed to emerge most valued Indian conglomerate at the bourses those times.

Allaying purported legacy of dithering to change for being a PSU, ONGC’s early rollout of SAP based applications to digitise inwards and outward finance and HR processes under Raha’s chairmanship in 2001-05 is unmatched initiatives needing praiseworthy mention.‬ Open house 'on the go kind platform' ONGCReports provided revolutionary two way communication opportunity to both employees and management unheard during early 2000 even in private sector. Taking over sick MRPL and turning it around within two years was a PSU's triumph over failing private sector. We should celebrate that leadership.

Subir Raha has been one of the tallest of industry leaders of those times. More so, for he led an unexpected candidate ONGC, which was a potential BIFR case and a failing public sector giant, to achieve unheard of value creation and a turnaround case story. Besides Sheshan, perhaps he remains one of rare few who stood firmly and performed excellently for independence of the public institution ONGC is and delivered outstandingly. As CEO of this global oil major he behaved befittingly to that stature and used to accept advice not orders from political and bureaucratic superiors.

Raha was not a corporate Czar having the mantle bestowed on him. He earned it by being talented, upright, firm, determined, hard working and being always committed to what he considered right.

Had he been alive today, Subir would have been a valued national figure contributing immensely for development of the country, for his real time was now. He did not live short life. He lived it fullest. Being some what maniacal perfectionist himself, he expected that. It's we who might have failed him. He attempted and succeed in transforming a whole generation of leadership in govt. owned companies.

It’s sad, whosoever followed at the helms he handed over, hardly could match the spark he had ignited.

A neo- Sadhu calling Ankor Wat symbol of ancient Hindu power

Some people riding on prowess of natural gifted power of oration love to display  serious malignancy of their knowledge and wisdom, all for sake of cheap popularity they acquire over gullible masses who are now becoming sore point of our modernity and civilisation taking nation to destructive path on pseudo nationalism forgetting that world beyond India always existed and to surprise always quite prosperously!! Even today.

Ankor Wat was built by local blood Khmer kings particularly Suryavarman II in 12th century when Chola kingdon was already in decline in India. Cholas did raid parts of southern Indonesia but never succeeded. Khmer was never part of any Indian king. Their kingdoms only had loose relation with Indians as they had  with Chinese and even Arabs. Mahayana and Therwada Budhism had brought lots of similarities of Hinduism to those lands. Khmer King Suryavarman II adopted Vishnu as his chief God and in Ankor wat shows himself as Vishnu.

Just because Suryavarman name sounds south Indian doesn’t make him any Madrasi. Khmer kingdom was one of the largest in its time that world had. Indian kings of those times were way smaller to them in many ways like in territory they controlled and and in riches.

Yes, because world those days was very collaborative and inclusive unlike now what we are turning into, Ankor Wat  had lots of influence from Tamil architectures.  May be some architects and workers were brought from India. Trade between Indian east coast and far east was flourishing those days.

Possible that Ankor Wat might have been just a beautifully built religious monument and may not be a worshiping place, a display of local spiritual culture and Khmer king’s faith and his power.

Delhi- chaos legitimised

It was 40 nostalgic years back when I used to travel in bus from Delhi ISBT to Shimla during my first job. The bus-stand was newly built but used to be dirty, crowded, chaotic, noisy. And those days too it used to represent the classical rudeness of Delhi.

Forward to this day, it was after few decades that I was traveling to Shimla in bus and visited ISBT again. It was early morning. The place is it still crowded, chaotic, dirty, stinking, noisy and now also almost threatening. And I heard it is renovated. It still represents what Delhi at the core is.

These places ( another disappointing one is outside New Delhi Railway station) symbolise quality of local civility  and showcase raw street culture of the capital to the visitors.

Vendors, taxiwalaas, autorickshaw walaas in Delhi all need to be tutored by sending them to compulsory discipline and behavioural training to Mumbai, Kakinada, Cochin, Thirupathi for two weeks. Most Delhiites have this issue that they have never been to the world outside to experience what a good culture and public conduct is.

Conning consumers

Disadvantageous disconnect of service industry with consumers is widening day by day. Monopolistic business environs promoted by neo-oligarchs are rampantly emerging across the service industry which fuel this apathy even more. Perhaps airlines to other service providers all disregard consumers once they know whom they need to please for business. ‘Kya ukhad loge’…

While Govts world over are proactive on competition redressal as what google vs EU was recently seen, no one bothers on abject fall in customer support from service industry globally like airlines which stonewall passengers grievances and fleece them with uncontrolled surges in fares regularly. Or cell service providers creating fake maze of customer support with bots ruining user experience with no where to go in distress. Or Insurance companies dumping unbelievable policies on people with sky high promises.

Human intelligence and judging of history

Human intelligence has been progressively improving exponentially for past several millenniums. People of some specific past might have been possessing superior intelligence and phenomenal wisdom but only accounted for up to their present with respect to their past. And we the people of present times have superior most intelligence and wisdom, human ever possessed before us. Don’t be judgemental about primitivism or even fabled supremacism of people who lived before us. Let them rest in history as characters of those stories.

Tamil- oldest language still spoken

Even though we do take pride in our past and rightly so but we must not close eyes towards outer world where human too made marvellous progress and some places even much earlier. Language too particularly written one has been known to evolve much earlier at several places and spread outwards.

Tamil is indeed one of the more ancient languages but definitely not the oldest. It is popular street adaptability of Tamil and it’s strength over other contemporary languages of India ( eg Parakrit, Sanskrit) in terms of ease of conversation which manifested in its continuous adoption by people even after 2500 years. Tamil is not the oldest but OLDEST language which is still spoken almost same way as Pallvas and Pandias spoke or people even before while Prakrit vanished and Sanskrit being language of elite not the streets continued only in realm of classical literature only. That shows supremacy of Tamil over those languages.

Why decision making in PSU fails to impress: case ONGC

Directors and CEOs of Indian PSUs traditionally are fond of good looking, smart, though no doubt efficient, youngsters to crowd around them in their MSGs ( Management services groups, executive assistants etc). This is long held tradition. These youngsters spend years in head offices of PSUs in Delhi offices, particularly in HR, becoming seniors and they decide on postings of those who are working hard day in and out in remote areas of NE , Karailkal, Offshore, Kakinada, Agartal at core business unites of say ONGC. Some of these MSG youngsters spend 20-25 years in head quarters and later manage to rise to higher positions of EDs and even Directors without or at the best with very brief stint of year or two outside in field offices. If one assess out profiles of MSG in CEOs and Directors’ offices of a typical PSU like ONGC for past 30 years, one will find 60 to 70 percent same persons continuing for decades. Directors change but these high profile file movers at MSGs remain firmly there.Sometimes they themselves become directors being well known to higher authorities or even ministries. Worst part they play for making PSUs inefficiently managed is that these assistant executives have influence in decision making. Being always around providing comfort of continuity and experience to shaky top leadership of PSUs which is already under daily threat from controlling ministries, they carry ability to put words in the mouth of directors and CMDs defeating very attempt to infuse new ideas of managing fresh challenges.

That’s core reason why a PSU like ONGC could stagnates or could avoid stagnating and become more efficient!!
