Future of EV

Most of the nations or their leaderships are smartly shirking away from sustainability goals or are only indulging in optics while doing little. Meanwhile, the EV manufactures equally backed by world govts are goading consumers to buy these cars as if expecting them to share up responsibility of meeting sustainability goals. Promotional ads too are becoming sentimentally alluring and challenging buyers to join the mission and jump in for helping clean up air. It's trap at least for some years more. It appears that for years due to lack of govt, societal and manufacturer support, owning EVs particularly cars, in developing countries would remain a charitable show off rather than becoming real means of fulfilling everyday transport requirements.

Contrarian opinion on pollution in Delhi

Fog has always been part of winters in Delhi and surrounding areas. Even 40 years ago, one can recall driving through fog was tough task and planes used to be diverted on failing to land. But office and schools used to be open. It was much later somewhere in 2017 that people started calling it 'smog' because instruments to measure pollutants in same suspended 'fog' particles had arrived and installed and started giving some numbers we call AQI. Smart watched and phones too showed out these numbers adding to our concern or rather panic. Life changed, masks arrived, schools closed and traffic evened on odds !!! Were there those same farmers burning paralii half century ago also? Or, were there those thousands of factories surrounding NCR spewing pollution into the air unchecked as can even be seen today. Go out and drive through radial highways from Delhi in early hours couple of hundred miles after midnight and watch chimneys making clouds. Farmers and car owners come last in this blame game actually.

Corruption in India: why to blame bureaucracy

Cause at the root of degrading society is the political corruption that gnaws. Majority of the bureaucracy is merely pliable and submissive, not always corrupt individually. Having an option most would not go for it.  They are unfortunately executing or operational hands of the corruption machine which is more visible and thus identifiable when investigated. Also, once the greed at top is kept nourished, everyone down is permitted to taste other means of garnering wealth with seeming protection. It’s broad and lengthy task to achieve corruption free country. Possible though.

Elections must be made most affordable to run so that even a minion worker, street vendor or a tribe head but having stricter credentials of integrity, education, proven legacy and some legally bound commitment, is able to  contest There should  be  zero campaigning using commercial means. No rallies, road shows or adverts or sponsorships to be permitted. Only personal social media to approach public with credentials. Elections must be a silent affair. This will eliminate commitments of returning favours the contestants make to ‘business houses’ and ‘contractor’ and other  ‘promotors’ in lieu of money they get for running elections. That is the root of corruption they institutionalise when get elected. People with integrity would be able to ascend  up the power ladder and attempt to cleanse the system.

Why Indians love Maruti cars?

For decades Maruti and some other local brands have sold cars so well only by cracking ultimate Indian consumer’s final question to a sales pitch as to ‘what if my car breaks down in middle of no where’. Maruti retorts with expanded chest that one gets the ‘Mistry’ for their cars even in a village miles away from town. However they never explains as to why the largest number of cars stranded on roads are theirs always. Indians don’t appreciate reliability as a concept which must be at top of the priority while buying.  They just don’t know why and how to confidently rely on the quality which promises to rarely fail unless they are riding a aeroplane which never needs a ‘Mistry’ on way. In 15 years of continuous use I never saw even once my two Hondas ever stopping midway looking for help. So goes for  Volkswagen or Hyundai I assume. But people love to have Mistry ready looking for a car to break down. Those who make cars below mediocrity but forget to price not so mediocrely, thrive.

Work from home and city traffic

We had some opportunity to decongest the cities when Covid made us test 'work from home' successfully. Continuing with that with necessary tweaks could have brought transformational change to how we productively contribute to growth while relieving roads sans unneeded commuters. However short sightedness of corporates and triggered by some so called respected business leaders made us lose that opportunity. Govt should now reconsider to enforce such practices for some industries like software along with bringing in staggered office timing to save the cities.

Buying car of a local brand?

Never fall for buying some inferior products for sake of your love for country unless you have enormous money which you can easily forgo for patriotism. If it is your hard earned money and car being an aspirational possession, one deserves best what a consumer anywhere in world could buy.

Do thorough research on not just popular brands and models but their track record of after sale services and more importantly quality of the manufacturing and work ethics at the shop floor where faulty designs, casual workmanship and loose superintendence could result in bringing out substandard product.

Some local brands spend disproportionally high on PR for some reason.

Global brands operating here too are as much Indian as these claimants are in terms of material used and manpower. What separates is the quality of even tightening of a small bolt somewhere and the organisational discipline.

Languages: Fittest only would survive

Fittest only would survive is true for the languages too.

Nothing should be compulsory except the local language and English in Indian context of present times.

Let other languages slug it out in open for wider acceptance on their strengths. Only those which have street smartness, proven legacy of popularity, ease of learning, inclination for localisation and adaptability, vast vocabulary that a speaker never fumbles for a word would emerge victorious.

This is how powerful languages stayed concurrent for centuries. Kannada, Punjabi, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Telugu, Urdu/Hindustani, Bangali or Tamil could be few examples of such power languages.

Those which could not become street languages of any geographical part in any era or which require state clutches to survive either left the battle field long ago or exist sparingly only for rituals and historical relevance or for love of pedantic exhibitionism.

Urdu

What native north Indians speak  formally on streets is Urdu or Hindustani as Urdu was known once. Hindi, a renamed version of khadi  boli ( contrasting with more natural and older Awadhi, Bhojpuri etc) of 19th century primarily remained a spoken or rather a written language of official state communication only. Fifteen Crore Pakistanis speak Urdu either as first or second language. Most of the north India too speaks mix of Urdu and modern sanskritized Hindi in bazaars and streets though they may use  Devanagari script for writing. The syntactic usage from Urdu or Hindustani defines foundation of Hindi or Khadi Boli.  Urdu with whatever name it was known earlier had been official language of intercommunication for three centuries or more for large part of India. It had been a universal court and revenue language with rich vocabulary even during British times. Land records had been all in Urdu during English period too.  It acquired and built its large vocabulary from various Indian languages and also from Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian. Charlatans of communal bigotry have associated it with one religion only and created negative enigma around its script. Urdu script is not that difficult and can be mastered with much simpler learning curve. Its popularity and sustenance for centuries is proof of its ease of use. True worth and depth of any language can be measured from popularity of its poetry.  No one needs a proof for guessing popularity of Urdu gazals, sher and nazms. Urdu is without considering its usage of script is widest spoken language and has a legacy we should be equally proud as much as we love Tamil, Panjabi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Bhojpuri or Bangali.

Making integrated chips in India

Making IC chips of current  capabilities now requires achieving extremities of design and manufecturing technologies. Starting from scratch here is impossible when one is in competition with giants like TSMC or even Samsung or Intel and needs infusion of scores of billion dollars and lead of decades. Only very few companies claim  designing an IC of scale  of current sizes and there are foundries (fabs) like TSMC who control 50 percent of manufacturing.  World is global village we need to collaborate and lure bigs into making fabs here rather trying to boast to go for impossible targets. Not immediately at least. We made real great step with Semiconductor Complex Limited in 1984 itself making chips up to 800 nm a good comparable achievement of those times. That was completely gutted in fire in 1989 and not revived successfully when we had more pressing national priorities like Ram Mandir and Mandal. Now we are ages behind. We would have been much higher in catching up. Now catching up does not need just rhetorics it needs building massive ecosystem starting from curriculum changes to incubating talent in universities and providing financial incentives to talented youth to stay back. And also this needing many billions of dollars investments without still achieving development and design capabilities of current scale, weighing it with our national priorities is logical step, every nation does that. What do we need first must be first in our priorities. No nation aims to source everything in house until other priorities are met. Diplomatic advocacy and  friendly business relations is also important component of self reliance. World is one large village and all need to work together unless one wants to lock oneself in. ‬

Jaloos, Pheries, Jhaankiya, Jalsey

Religious Jaloos, Pheries, Jhaankiya, Jalsey, all such apparently intimidating street practices to show off class, clan, cult or faith camaraderie might have been of value in medieval times when these used to corroborate accompanying militery prowess of the royal who used to exploit faith for expansion and domination. However such acts should have no place in 21st century of our times when moral rather than the physical conduct of the practitioners should define the public acceptability of a faith or a thought. Street demonstrations organised in name of freedom of practicing faith, are becoming increasingly pronounced and frequent and all faiths are indulging in this oneupmanship or rather supremacism. A modern society should shun all such provocative street shows.

Wolves practicing magic remedies survive on grasslands of foolishness

The wolves and vultures practicing magic remedies, the practitioners of tricks and untested and uncontested medicines and treatments, the quacks, the sorcerers, occultists and fake preachers earn their success on the universal truth that majority of all the sick and ill would heal by themselves with little effort and time and most of those in despair and melancholy would also come out of it by themselves helped by time. That is how these rogues continue to steal credit for themselves and for the fake knowledge they claim to practice.

And those few who remain unhealed physically or mentally despite visiting these thugs either blame themselves or are too minuscule in numbers to be of any significance to bring disrepute or suspicion over acts of these quacks, and fake healers. Their glory thus continues because the world is mostly full of fools.

Being left is not being communist

Socialism and leftist ideology must not be considered same as communism as we saw sometimes in Russia and China of last century, which might have been ill implemented ground application of a noble thought.

Most evilly indoctrinated people (idiots) confuse ‘socialism’ with ‘communism’ or deliberately try to mislead available equally biased idiots among commoners. Every democratic govt anywhere in the world strives to be 'social' welfare state. This is what a state primarily exists for, though some confuse that objective of existence of state with military prowess and controls over people. These also could be some of the means to achieve a welfare state though a wrong way.

Free healthcare, free education, free commuting, free power or free internet are target aims of every govt for their citizens, be it Germany, US, Norway, France, England, Emirates, Vietnam or Korea or any African nation or even India. It is the quality of delivery which would measure the efficiency of such a task not the profit it generates for state.

Despite many alleged aberrations it is for the leftist ideology, Marx, Lenin and Mao that humanity is spared of atrocities of royals, rich feudal lords and oligarchs and fascists and present day neo-fascists who for three thousand years since rise of bullies who became kings, landlords and rulers and their vassals had been rampantly trampling over commoners, poor, women and underprivileged. The emergence of left ideology in late 19th century led to founding of true democracies based on principles of equality and justice for all in most parts of the world and continues to do so as those principles never die. Left ideology would remain till democracy is there, forcing even more aspired and glamourised capitalism to become humane.

With Trump world order may disorder

Listened to live x space last 13 August, Monday of Trump with Musk on twitter space assuming US elections have global impact and everyone should know how the leadership there would help shape the world order. It was pessimistic outcome in the end. The conversation between the two was eyeopener and rather scary as to how people so important and powerful could be megalomaniacal, and egotistically unconcerned about universal values of discipline, and peace which has made world a much liveable place during past few decades of modern era. It may not remain so for long.
The strikingly concerning clips out of this conversation which may define the world order after November was open and wholehearted praise for Korean leader  Kim who was mentioned as a strong leader, calling him a  even Boss ! while at the same time using some harsh taunting words for European leadership and display of awe for Putin  !!   Lately there have been sort of finality to the national boundaries even though surface tension at borders is prevalent between few nations. These status quos may not be respected any more in future.  World could be in for darker times if these views are acceptable for deciding whom people vote for. US too may brace for the impact.

Why it’s ok to politically pamper communities

Pampering is part of expectations arising out  of REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY that is what we are. If Mayavati and Kashiram can champion cause of dalits and Yogi wants to represents only Sanatani Hindus or Owasi projects himself as Muslim representative so can DMK’s Karunanidhi and Stalin call for voters they think would look to them as leaders. Representative democracy is best as it gives chance to all communities to vent their expectations through elections and democracy.

Our institutions like courts are there to check excessive political leaning at cost of hurting other citizens or not treating all equally once elected.

If communities are not heard or politically silenced to get their representation at governance we have situations like punjab and naxalites or Assam and northeast.

Divergent communities when forming one single nation need to be accommodating to each other to stay existing as one.

We need left of center rule for achieving progress for every single individual. Presently ninety eight percent possess just one percent of all wealth. All talk of trillion dollars economy or third largest one is hogwash because 25-30 large business owners own ninety percent of all wealth. If they comprise some nation ‘India’ as group, yes their country is fast growing and progressing but for most of fellow countrymen it is a laggard state offering few jobs and sundry opportunities.

All that we observe in India, the social disharmony or the political partisanship or the religious frenzy or our collective refusal to adopt social reforms etc, are byproducts of poverty. Once you address poverty muslims and dalits too would become expectedly well mannered and upwardly like one thinks brahmins or other upper castes are. Arabs of soudi and UAE were tribal nomads few decades back. Now with wealth they are some of most well mannered and socially hygienic race. It’s all affordability of good life which every one wants to enjoy. Govt should work for that for every single individual.

Expressways are not built from our taxes

How will Govt build expressways without taxes, is commonest refrain to justify squeezing taxpayers further as if these ventures are welfare schemes of govt. No. If built using taxpayers' money these would have been toll free.

Facilitating public by building roads and expressways is inherent actions for development and no one denies that, but for private firms who contract to build these highways, the real motive behind this disguised facilitation is always business. The fact is the expressways are business ventures being built to earn profits for private firms, for which they collect tolls. The thousands of crores which private firm invest on these roads are borrowed from public banking institutes funded by public. Why will a private firm undertake to be part of these ventures if not for any profit?

Besides tolls, manyfold collateral gains accrue on secondary townships and facility developments along the route which are most of the times real but surreptitiously hidden treasures for these firms and for govt too.

Kerala and Cochin Shipyard

Kerala has pride of place in India which many so called self proclaimed advanced states would struggle to compete in skills, professionalism and integrity. During period 1991-98 for seven years I had been to Cochin several times and happen to stay one to two months each occasion on assignment for dry docking at Cochin Shipyard ( @cslcochin) for vessels owned by my company. Those were times when private sector in large scale ship building and repairs had not really built capacity and pubic sector Cochin Shipyard was perhaps one of the largest and best available. CSL employed hundreds perhaps thousands of workers, and engineers working simultaneously on several ships on its dry-docks and jetties. Whole experience of workmanship, integrity and discipline I encountered at CSL during those days had been unique and unforgettable to this day. Our ship was specialised technical vessel built at France for saturation diving and geotechnical investigation and several expats used to work onboard. It was pleasingly astonishing to see simple ordinary appearing workers possessing world class professionalisms providing successful solutions which that time we used to consider hiring from abroad otherwise. I remember one rigger Manoharan who used to install critical heavy equipments like thrusters with such an ease and dexterous accomplishment that all that used to appear magical and we used to watch those installations with awe like sitting in a theatre. Much later after decades I learned that Manoharan had won several accolades including for work on aircraft carrier.

Malayalis indeed were way ahead of national average on skills and integrity metrics those days and must be even more ahead of those days today.

Why Himachal and Uttarakhand pay for your pilgrimage, tourism and your evironment

While every other state in plains have million opportunities to expand horizon of growth, hills of Himachal, Uttarakhand and other Himalayan states have restrictions. Unlike other states HP can't use its natural resources unrestrictedly because they have responsibility to ensure good weather and rains for the people of plains in rest of India.

We don’t let Himalayan states start lucrative timbre or mining industries in large scale for fear of environmental consequences knowing that these states take this responsibility as custodian for protecting environment for all of India. Does it get compensated for?

People of hills do need good roads but bringing multilane expressways through fragile mountains only benefits people from far of places in Gujarat, south, Punjab , Bengal etc who want to spend good time for their recreation or for seeking salvation at remote pilgrimages where they want to reach faster, more conveniently and in larger numbers. They want even railroads tunnelled through hills to reach Badrinath and Ketharnath quicker. Left to them locals will not need these expressways and trains needlessly. These activities of heavy construction using massive blasting and mega boring through mountains have broken and damaged the very foundations of the hills which are now susceptible to landslides after getting soaked with heavy rains as is being experienced now. Do these states like Himachal get compensated for by people of the plains who reach in millions as tourists and pilgrims up the hills and for whom needless infrastructures need be created mindlessly.

While these states and people of plains expect and demand restriction on industrial commercial activities on hill states to save their own skies, should centre and other states not consider suitably compensating them, who find even needs at times of disasters difficult to meet because of the lack of funds. At times of difficulty like being experienced this season, every state from plains should be held responsible and made to pay large cess proportionate to number of people who travel to hills from these places.

All unnecessary large construction activities must be stopped which benefit only large contractors and may be corrupt enablers of these projects but proportionately very few commoners. Tourism and pilgrimage must be enjoyed in natural convenient setting. It can't be pilgrimage being able to drive your SUV from Surat right to the doorstep of Kedarnath or enjoying extra cool weather reaching Shimla one hour earlier while causing miseries to local people. Let's stop all this.

Baalak buddhi: Ridiculing opposition are designer tactics

This is the tactic of schoolboys. Caricaturisation has become a institutionalised weapon to show opponents in poor light and make them items of ridicule. As is often seen in school children, they bully their opponents by making them the object of ridicule, and find it better to win a dispute by ridicule rather than arguments.

It is well thought out strategy   of cunning to make others look unworthy so that the public has no choice but to elect them, even if they do not like to do so. It is a clever political ploy. Remember that in schools, bullies if they cannot come up with any other argument to win, they taunt their opponents on their clothes, belly, teeth, height even family, class, caste, colour and background, so that they feel defeated. It is unfortunate that a section of the general public enjoys such childish and senseless antics.

But such games never last long. By successfully facing these small but ugly political oppositions, a person grows up, gains confidence and emerges a winner.

Journalism in India is all in dumps

Classical Journalism as profession with discernible  and identifiable ethics is all gone. We are left with only individuals having professional access to public media calling themselves journalists. They are no more bound by those values for which journalism was once a profession independent of national, racial and religious affiliations.

The most important training a journalist must learn to possess is the neutrality particularly when reporting on a conflicts, social, religious or economical,  where only NEWS should outflow not the running commentary colored with personal biases and instinctual national or ethical prejudices.

US lost Vietnam war not because it fell weaker against locals but because of strong US media which reported  atrocities of US forces and uselessness of war. They were never called antinational. Some were even  honoured. Let consumers of the news judge. Independent doesn’t mean no scope for errors or intrusion of bias. It must not be part of a policy. Contrast this with policy driven biased, sold out news houses in India which are spewing venom everyday as policy of management and politico-business exigencies.

Emergency: a perspective

We were not small enough those days to not know of politics or couldn’t understand emergency and its impact. We were in 9-10th during 75-77. I recall all that from days of chaos, daily strikes, police actions, police mutinies ( on political provocations) during days prior to june 1975, emergency brought considerable peace and order.

Discipline, civility and the order,  the kinds we saw during emergency in offices, streets, factories and universities were never seen in India again and even not observed to this day.

There were some rogue sections of power who misused authority but general public was commonly never troubled except for few cases on family planning.

Primarily some section of politicians, some newspaper barons, some lawyers were the only classes which found themselves subject of govt toughness and some people were jailed too though most were under house arrest as political prisoners only unlike what we observe today when politicians slug out in jails along with hardened criminals on arbitrary charges.

Buses, trains, university exams everything ran in order and in time. Economy was better because industrial out put improved.  This was also time when Panjab and Haryana started giving record food grains output and our infamous imports from US and Europe almost stopped. We became Nuclear power  that too during time of cold war when resistance was maximum. We also launched our first space satellite. There was secularism and discipline in society. One can recall there was a white paper on seeking opinion on an ordinance to drop use of surnames. Constitutional Institutions were left untouched and functioned well leading to holding of free elections in 1977 which Indira herself lost.

Yes , these all could have been done with normal laws also avoiding emergency. However politics don’t not follow logic.

Whatever we hear about atrocities of emergency are mostly gas and part of fake stories made up later or during months immediately after lifting of emergency to win elections. Excess were indeed there but not on public. India was much better though normal aberrations of politics creeping in can’t be denied and but these had never been so grave as to be projected as monstrous as being done by some politicians of this day to confuse public.

Emergency period should be compared in contrast to the days two years prior to emergency when we saw dirtiest of street politics played which stalled general administration making society suffer.  Rail strike of George Farnandis brought full nation to grinding halt leading to food grain shortage and decline in industrial output. Gujarat and Bihar saw worst kind of student movements led by Jaiprakash Narayan. Even it was alleged that forces were provoked openly to disobey command. Indira’s election was disqualified on flimsy administrative lapse by high court on technical grounds on which too she was allowed to challenge in Supremely court. But opposition didn’t want to wait. That was not the  provocation of declaration of emergency but culmination of avoidable happening of those days.

Section of lawyers, journalists and politicians who received supposed brunt of emergency have also been most vocal and have power to influence public discourse. They misuse that power to confuse public and sell fake narrative. This is what’s happening. Politicians who were not even born or were at side line during days of emergency today create fake stories and narrative. Social media has come handy for spreading lies.

The futility of all this propaganda which brought Janata party to power was observed in aftermath of emergency. We had worst govt ever which spent all time in infighting and brought new culture of politics  in India which even continues to this day and impacts progress.

Indira was brought back to power with majority  of 380 seat in 1980 by same people who removed her. Next elections congress took 403 seats. It was people’s mandate. People know right from wrong. One can’t challenge that.  This is premise even govt of today makes.

It is useless to make fake stories about emergency and Indira for present day politics. Our democracy which we proudly claim as pillar of unity was strengthened by leaders like Jawahar, Indira, Narsimharao, Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh. Even Devgawda  provided quite fine govt being son of soil and secular.

During seventies and eighties it was period of cold war and India despite being third world nation and having economic challenges made its mark globally which no one could ignore. Society was in peace. India was founded in strong grounds which makes it what it is today.

You can’t have trillion dollar economy without becoming few billion dollar economy first that too at the times which were like digging our own road to move ahead. This is what our leaders like Indira did for India. It is the same road we now can move faster and claim extra credits.

No muslim minister in NDA 2024

In electoral democracy, representation is not earned on talent only. The elected one is most of the time merely a representative of popular public emotions. Elections decide how public gets represented for their cause in the house but the govt formation ensures how nation is governed. True leader is not just the one who leads administrative functions of the govt but the one who can check anomalies of electoral politics to make every citizen feel politically participative. ‬It's the job of an inclusive leader to sieve societally balancing talent from diversity of classes, castes, faiths, gender, languages and regions to make every section of citizenry feel not just empowered and represented but active participant in the governance too.

Scriptures can't be followed blindly

Scriptures are also written by some hominoid or a human similar to us only but during the times our race was still primal, most likely of lesser intellect as the wisdom and the intellect have been linearly progressing since life began on planet. The newer you are the wiser you become. The ones who lived centuries back can’t be always more rational thinkers. Not everything written by someone 1200 years back be guiding us today when we are morally more evolved. Most fundamental driving force of Human progress has been adoption of community living which enabled our species become what we are today. Community and family require us to accept differing opinions and move along together. That made civilisation grow. Those who don’t learn this are failing to partner humanity and its progress.

Calling someone who differs with one’s opinion a Cobra is stagnantly primitive and reprehensibly avoidable view. Both who opined this 1200 years back or the one who accepts this in 2024 would be grossly wrong.

(this is in response to someone quoting following in our WhatsApp group:
"To partner with someone who is not in agreement (not compatible) is like living with a snake". This is taken from ancient scripture Thirukural supposedly written by philosopher Valluvar of Tamil origin.

PSUs and privatisation

There is problem that large sections of intelligentsia keep pushing for privatising public companies expecting that only scions of rich business lineage are equipped with inborn skills to bring in efficiency. That's resulting in farcical giving away of public property for ultimate liquidation.

There is no denying that several PSUs had been unnecessarily created or have outlived reasons being in hands of govt. However there are corporations working in oil exploration, oil marketing, railways, airlines , mining, banks and shipping which act like counterbalances to private run off profiteering and need be in public hands. Most of PSU suffer not from lack of managerial skills but because of too much of political interference which has been increasing over time. That false superintendence needs complete removal. From bureaucracy to ministers and even their personal secretaries, everyone treats PSU as personal fiefdom to bully down and micro manage operations. Even scores of parliamentary committees and their members reserve rights to question day to day small decisions of PSUs. There is too much of external control which hinders fulfilling performance expectations. Corporate decision making in PSUs has been increasingly orphaned task leading to failed results.

ONGC in 1999-2000 was declared on deathbed and was considered a lost case when Subir Raha was brought in as C&MD and given free hand to transform and rescue this key infrastructural public behemoth. Subir Raha, in next two years not just turned around ONGC into profit making efficient organisation but made it most valuable company in bourses among all public and private firms in 2004-05. The inertial momentum he pushed in lasted another decade and half. He bought gross loss making private company like Mangalore Refineries from Birlas and turned it around in one year. That was the pinnacle of his managerial competence.

Why can't govt, instead of selling these gems to private business houses on false hopes brings in reforms like complete deliverance from political interference and appointing of proven professionals to the boards with complete autonomy.

Cheetal Grand

It’s almost 40 years we have been experiencing this marvel of great stopover The Cheetal Grand.  I always thought of it as the best restaurant in North India and being on highway, the best stopover anywhere. They never diluted quality. It rivals any multinational chain in service and food quality. Their chicken ring rice ( besides Omelette and pakora) is exceptional delicacy. Chai is unforgettable. Have always seen owners supervising the servicing. Our trip to Dehradun always has this planned stopover at Chital.

Distribution of wealth : a noble objective of welfare govt

India is nation with sharp economic imbalance among citizens. Redistribution of wealth through govt efforts is what any public welfare oriented govt must work for. It doesn't mean snatching away anyone's income as some mischievous politicians try to make it out. In fact strengthening of earning capabilities and job creation facilities of entrepreneurs and farmers is must to fulfill such noble objective. Govt must work for helping channelise fruits of wealth creation to all needy so that we have society with balanced prosperity. That would require encouraging policies for agriculture, industrial and service sector growths too. Those who oppose such policy are twisting the noble intension to confuse the public. They appear in a way against public welfare and must be called for that.

Childhood and present

It’s always beautiful reminiscing the past our generation enjoyed living though. The discipline in our actions and words soaked in social values naturally imbibed into our childhood and was not even taught much. It surprises me that words which used to be taboos to speak in public are now part of common parlance. Disrespecting customs and gods of other faiths is something we were damn scared to even think fearing the same retribution as ill words to our own faith or god would have brought on us. Sin was common. Now it is embarrassingly shameful to watch people literally abusing crassly the gods and symbols people of other faiths believe. Social accommodation which carried us to this day successfully has sunk with political froth surfacing and ruling over Indian society. We need to rescue ourselves from this fall.

EV too pollute

1.It's efficiency of mobility which makes new age cars popularly desirable irrespective of fuel/ propulsion used. E in EV should primarily refer to 'ELECTRONIC' not 'ELECTRIC' as that makes vehicles technologically efficient to run even on gas and controls emissions as well.

2. Batteries too are largely polluting if not to that extant as hydrocarbon fuel. Production and disposal of batteries is known to be one of the most polluting industrial processes.
3. Lithium mining is environmentally and ecologically hugely damaging. Massive quantity of fresh water is wasted in dry regions for this depriving human and animals. Besides, enormous quantity of sulphuric acid and other chemicals are used in mining which penetrate the soil and poison it irreversibly.

4. Most important from Indian point of view - China controls majority of the lithium production making aatmanirbharta bit suspicious to hold.

5. Who benefits? Check AI, Google for manufactures of EV and their owners.

Swords and religions

Swords or guns can’t bring in large scale cult build ups.

Like we see people recently metamorphosing into new social order destroyers, due to some political favour or indoctrination they are showered with, people have been changing their faiths or adopting new opinion about gods for thousands of years regularly and repeatedly on some impulse. No one used to hold others differently on social scale due to that change in faith.

There had never been any anti defection law anywhere in the world in human history before foolishness descended upon our generation. Rigidity of faiths as we see presently is new phenomenon.

What path people followed spiritually had always been very fluid and they kept moving from one opinion about god and rituals to another depending on which preacher in neighbourhood influenced them. Some faiths were more widespread and we call those religions now. Swords had little sporadic role in that. It would be foolish to believe that super powerful Ghanzez Khan’s and Helago’s mangol decedents were brought into islam by some sword while they were successfully destroying the geographies themselves?

It’s not possible to change faith en masse unless indoctrinating powerfully or tempting appealingly those people who are intuitively submissive and weak. Only few of those directly under a gun or a sword would submit to a new faith permanently. Not millions or billions of ordinary public as Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Shaivism, Vaishnavism brought in at different times with community indoctrination of their respective views about god and associated rituals.

BTW, All religions are curated myths bringing some false order into society or providing power and aura to some preacher or cunning ruler who themselves or their followers, wanted world to remember them as god’s images. These faiths always have limited utility for progress of the humanity the kind of what we achieved. Kings merely used faiths to rule and suppress masses as rulers are doing now.

Digital payments need review

‪In its present form digital payment system may be at core of widespread thuggery we are facing from smarter crooks who are tricking us into emptying our bank accounts in seconds. No where such blatant ease is offered to people for  transecting and transferring money without much restrictions and validations that it becomes equally easy for cheats to get into our accounts in seconds. This is not to disrespect Govt and hope hopping citizenry for having so much faith on this so called convenience of digital payment revolution which people claim is globally unique and is a fintech trophy only India could hold. It is not that such system is sort of unique technical achievement which no other country could evolve.  It is rather a decision to go for it or not. Most of the  advance nations have yet not decided on that. People there prefer to use physical card or mobile phone which is equally convenient but more secure. That ‘on the  go’ kind UPI  is excellent as currency less system but needs systemic background strengthening so that cheats can’t use bots and just a four digit pin to clean sweep our bank accounts.

Emergency

Community harmony

Non-animal ie human life, fundamentally exists and has reached this point of progress solely on adopting community living in harmony where people of divergent habits, faiths, lifestyles, views and opinions had been given respectable space to feel free within that. First principle of achieving this harmony has been to adjust our space to comfort others and then ask them to adjust theirs if the boundaries are messing up. Kings, emperors have been known to be divisive for sake of protecting their rule but people on streets, towns and villages had never been fighting one other for cause of individual faith or religion until very recently when mass media in variety took over first as newspapers, plays and cinema and now as social media. Worriers of doom are rampantly brining the end nearer. We have degraded ourselves and have become dishonestly skeptical towards our own survival.

What's in name?

Changing name is new phenomena governed by fasle sense of hope that the PRESENT of now would prevail over the FUTURE till eternity. It may not last even 100 years. For times immemorial naming a place, town, village or city, even a country had never been a tradition anywhere. Like language and its nouns, the names of places evolved and emerged organically over long periods of usage. Also people called and named places as per their language and tradition irrespective of what local inhabitants called it. A Chinese always had different name for India, Rome, Egypt or Magadh. And Turks called China and India differently as what suited them as per their language and knowledge about those places. So Indians called Yavan not Greek. Like we all called Bombay or Bambai for Mumbai. What's in name?

How the city metamorphosed over period of last 300 years is result of collective endeavours of lakhs of natives, migrants from all over India, locals, expatriate and foreigners who pooled their distinctive cultures, values, skills, money and acumen to make this city evolve into a globally recognised and respected megapolis of Bombay, we call now Mumbai. What it might had been earlier could be important and vital but it had never been even a fraction of what it became and proudly brought maximum value to those who originally lived in the region.

The ghettoisation represents and defines the communal schism

Ostracising ‘others’ is organically built into some societies.

The ghettoisation, which represents and visibly defines the communal schism between Hindus and Muslims, is itself result of deeply segmented self imposed societal compulsions we had lived in for centuries.

We had been observing ghettoisation in villages and cities where you can still find Brahim pada to Bhumihaar pada or Santhaal pada, Chamaar Dandi, Jain mauhalla to Gur Singh enclave. Even in hostel messes I had seen Jat mess, Jain mess, Andhra mess, Pahadi mess, at least we had that in college I studied. ‬‪Communal segmentation is extension of that deep rooted malignancy.

Faiths and castes are similarly weighed for deciding relations, neighbourliness, even touchablity. It’s our collective burden. Secularism, the way it was broadly observed during first thirty years post independence, had started mitigating those negative ancestral values with visible impacts. We had started turning more concerned for basic needs and personal development than knocking the past for both validation and retribution as we experience today. Alas, We have quickly been falling apart now. ‬

Evolution : States and kingdoms

There had been geographical boundaries made by nature as had been for Caspian Steppes and for Chinese plains, but the kings and their kingdoms were sovereign independent rules everywhere including Indian region. They considered invading neighbours as their prime job and necessary show of strength. Boundaries of these countries kept changing every now and then in India as well in north Africa and Indo China. For a Bactrian, Persian or central Asian kings like those of Kushans, Huns and Sakas or Greeks invading Sogdia or Macedonian, Egypt or India were of no difference. All were just doing what kings were doing those days. These were governed not by any faith as there hardly any used to be of permanence but by greed for wealth and power. Even today politicians are doing the same, a bit differently. In 8-9th centuries Chalukyas were invading Pallavas or Gangas and even present day Andhra and destroying, to your surprise, not just cities and palaces but temples. So did Cholas after them who invaded Orisa or even Bangal. Harsha did the same. All were sovereign nations under respective kings.

Supporters of mythological history resort to seeking proof from their so called religious literature almost all of which appeared in distributable printed form just couple of centuries back and has been collection of stories told or made up by some one mainly brahmins of the royal courts who claimed to know by heart. Most are mere imaginary tales. There has never been proof of authenticity. These stories got new modern facility of offset printing in 18th century and become widely distributable. And started getting quoted as if true. Not different from what WhatsApp is doing. However real history is out come of intense scientific research using modern tools of archaeology and study of available ancient edicts and coins which reveal very good estimate of what had been happening in past few millenniums. You have faith of optimism but science wants to explore facts on ground. Referencing merely some mythology to prove history will never stand test of reality.

States are modern concept and created for ease of governance. Don’t confuse kingdom nations with present day states. That would be dissociative fallacy to make a point. Modern nations like India are mature outcome of people’s collective mandate and is not one person’s authoritative dictate as used to be of past kings. We are a single nation now though sorry to disappoint you, never had been. Though yes a ‘region’ of similar kind faiths did exist south of Himalaya for over three millenniums. That too unified by none but Buddhism first time and for almost 1000 years continuously !!! Jainism too had good run under patronage of several kingdoms. Rest all were minor, scattered faiths which got amalgamated into monolithic modern religion we know and define as one now.

Before these ancient civilisations emerged, the ones like Indus valley, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Mayans, we were primates just evolving into full blown Homo Sapiens and learning to live in communities and under collective customs and rules and authorities. It was a slow process. World was not always as it appears today or as mythology fantasises for us of our past. We were really animals who evolved pretty slowly into intelligent fighting, killing, loving and arguing( as we do today) species.

People look for their Gods, Heroes and their magnificent stories in depths of bygone time. Universe is complex. All those splendorous , bejewelled, large people, devi, devta, angels, sages and flying objects and speaking animals and their magnificent stories, revelations of holy books if not outrightly imaginations, must have occurred at some other planet or may be in different dimension of which we are yet not aware of, nothing happened on our planet in dimensions we know about. I am sure is 3.5 Billion years of life on earth, nothing of those sort happened as per every possible scientific tool we could deploy to explore. I don’t intend to disappoint anyone. All stories , postulates could be true but may be awaiting evidence to emerge on rational plane.

Villains too were heroes someday

Any false and ridiculous propaganda does not strengthen our religion but instead strengthens the doubts about our faith for the followers of other religions. Common people understand all the decisions, right or wrong. Ram must have understood. Remember that the period of Raavan's rule has been said to be hundreds of years. Ram's Vanvaas of 14 years is nothing compared to this. Kansa also ruled successfully and popularly for decades before Krishna was born. Hrinayakashyapu ruled for thousands of years and became so powerful that he started considering God as inferior. At that time his pride was at its peak. That’s natural. There was no challenge. People considered him as God. The foolishness must have been like this even then.

Hitler had also conquered almost all of Europe. At that time it seemed that he was the most worthy person. The propaganda machine was running at full strength. In the end, all of them proved to be the worst villains of their respective eras.

It is not known when sagacity dies.

We have better life than our ancestors

We love to eulogise past. Despite all what people call as sins of our generation from eating burgers to partying and getting overworked with competing workplaces, we are not only healthier but live longer than our forefathers.

Our ancestors were consuming what was available for them and their physical performance used to be what was required as per available resources. Their days had limited hours to accomplish whatever they had in hand. Beyond six in evening they must finish eating and sleep. There were no lights for darkness.

Our generation has more hours to do useful work. We find time for workout and go on vacation and avail better and modern healthcare which our ancestors lacked, we know what would go wrong since prudence for health forewarns us and we take care.

Life expectancy is most important criterion for measuring quality of life. Life expectancy before 1947 was averaging at 35 years. Now it is 71 years. US has it at 79. It must have been worst in deeper past. There were times when pandemics and endemic had been rampantly wiping out populations all over the globe. This happens rarely now, thanks to science and means communication and connectivity which keep these in check.

Quality of life in present era is improving so also the age we die. Because of scientific advancements there may be time fairly soon, when most human would be enjoying burgers, pasta, street food, till age of 100 and dying on euthanasia willingly.

Which period would one like to be born if given an option?

Universes: Beads in rosary of Big Bangs

Universe is so complex to even imagine. Its enormity of distance and size is perplexing in perspective of how we perceive objects and their depths and volumes and the dimensions.

The expanding universe has Big Bang at its genesis, the blast triggered by unknown. Big Bang of the universe we are part of,  is still not exhausted or has not ended as we still keep learning of its continued expansion.

Postulate: There could even be some another ‘Big Bang' occurring for some other universe behind which had triggered our Big Bang which formed this universe which we struggle to explain. And there could be yet another Big one behind that too triggering one Big Bang there too, and so on endlessly triggering one from another in endless chain of Big Bangs causing infinitely unending rotary , or a rosary repeating endlessly- blasting, expanding, forming and collapsing and then triggering many such blasts and then blasting yet again to repeat circularly. Do we see all this happening in circular succession events tied into a chain or rosary?

EVM/ईवीएम

Challenge should not be thrown at the doubters to prove the authenticity of EVM, but challenge should be accepted to prove their own winnability despite EVM. Those who think they are unbeatable, and rightly so at least presently, should themselves come forwards to accept this challenge lest the suspicions deepens. Those who are best to win would win anyway whatsoever way the votes are counted.

Question should not be whether an electronic gadget can be manipulated remotely, or during manufacture or while handling? Question should be as to why such a vital and fundamental measuring tool of democratic sustenance continues to be relied upon if even one single major participant refuses to accept it. That should be the maturity of democracy.

EVM were deployed primarily to shorten the election periods and finish the process quickly. This was to avoid giving longer period for political bitterness to rise and brinkmanship to damage the very process of elections. However it never happened that way. We have been having uncomfortably large periods of elections spreading into weeks before we get the results. The purpose is already defeated and we have issues of trust with accuracy of the devices and rampant suspicion, baseless so be it. It should have been enough of these reasons to replace EVM and go back to ballot at least to restore the confidence.

There are more advanced nations which can technologically refine their EVMs to most acceptable standards but they are not doing that because there are democratic participants who refuse to accept these. Only we are continuing with these devices despite so much of logic against.

Abandoned sons of Gods

When you abuse people of other faiths and THEIR God and that God fails to come forward to either stop you or protect His faithfuls and also YOUR God too fails to either reward or punish you for what you did to those people of other faith and their God, implies that both Gods are of same kind, either, powerless fantasies or, who knows, they are kind of evils enjoying making you both sides fight among themselves for some power who is actually no where. You decide what your God should be if you are of this kind of human. You are either Devil's child or child of some God who has definitely abandoned you for good.

Stray dogs must be removed from streets

Stray dogs are menacingly dangerous particularly during early morning hours and roam in fearsome packs always on edge of aggression.

We must value human life at supreme and leave no space for such brutality over itself. Stray dogs have no place in any civilised society and must be removed from streets with every means we have in hand. People feeding them must be punished. If physical calming or putting strays down is needed, so be it. We don’t stick to that animal love syndrome to spare mosquitoes and virus for same reason.

Only pets should be allowed with defined restrictions. No civilised nation allows strays.

Those animal rights organisations which help cause this brutality to happen must also be made to compensate victims of stray attacks as fine.

Aryan migration to India

Some charlatans fail to appreciate that during boundaryless ancient world people were simply moving and spreading out to find better places for living on whatever transport they could invent or discover.

Whole life of few low wit minds is spent on failing attempts to dig some link to prove that we Indian never migrated from anywhere and are original habitants of this land. At core of their struggle is that we are greatest and grandest of all civilisations and that crown would get sullied if are to be told that our genesis is elsewhere.

Why can't we feel proud of what we are, irrespective of where we are from anciently? One can be part of great civilisation even when one's father or grandfather were not. If you are great today as you consider yourself, enjoy this moment, why do you need to keep agitating your empty brains to prove something no one else believes, not yet.
